NDTV noted that the P20 range lacked wireless charging or a 1440p display like its competition, and that the P20 Pro's Kirin 970 system-on-chip was comparable to the Snapdragon 835, but slightly behind the Exynos 9810 of the Samsung Galaxy S9 on CPU benchmarks.

The result is a mobile more interesting than the Samsung Galaxy S9 or S9 Plus, particularly if you're going to make use of all the camera's high-end features. While the battery life of the P30 compares well with the S10, Huawei's phone doesn't incorporate wireless charging, and that's a major omission. Breaking that down, it's 24MP for the front-facing camera, 8MP for the telephoto, a massive 40MP for the RGB, and 20MP for the monochrome. Also, with there being a cut-out at the top of the display there are improvements with the proximity sensor. So the consensus is clear: if cameras matter the most, but apps aren't so important, the Huawei P40 Pro will do just fine.Although the company hasn't established an iconic status like Samsung or Apple, Huawei has stealthily become a global smartphone giant. Look at the photo below and you can see how the night shot mode helps recover highlight and shadow details. Like other recent higher-end Huawei phones, the P20 Pro makes quite an impact with its highly reflective glass finish. The 4D Predictive Focus feature tracks and predicts where the main object moves to make sure your main object is in focus all the time. Contracts with merchants like Three or Carphone Warehouse will allow you to pick up a P30 without paying a large upfront outlay.

The edges are minimalized and the cut-out at the top, maximises the display area without compromising on functionality. All of that results in a camera which is shockingly good in low light conditions, capable of pulling out noise-free details even I couldn't see with my naked eye.The third camera – an 8-megapixel 3x telephoto lens (80mm equivalent focal length) – merely adds optical zoom. Its expert reviewer felt that the absence of wireless charging and the smaller screen size of the P30 left it in the Pro's shade.

If you hate them on principle, though, there's an option to obscure the notch entirely with a black bar -- since that leaves us with a standard 18:9 display, you'll still get to see everything you need to on-screen. However, the Samsung does a slightly better job of appearing to be 'all screen' front-on, because the Huawei's screen does not curve around at the sides. There’s no word yet on when this update might drop, but you can see the full list of Huawei phones that are set to receive the Android Q upgrade in our dedicated Huawei ban article. But it was the Ascend range of Android devices which really set the firm on the path to global dominance. Photographs are often slightly underexposed in the phone’s default auto shooting mode but in these cases it’s relatively easy to compensate using the on-screen exposure compensation tool. That can make a difference when using apps, for video playback, and for gaming, but it's not a deal breaker.
