Remy Ma had been incarcerated for six years [2008-2014], and then we get together and come back from nothing? You could tell that he is a good guy and that choosing a life of drugs and violence wasn't his purpose. Your transparency is admirable and your fans will get to know you even better and will learn so much more about you in your memoir. The system took my sister, the system stole my nephew’s money, the system has pirated multiple members of my family and my friends.

RASCOE: I mean, you talk about the regret because it's like, what do you feel like - 'cause like you said, you bullied people - good people and bad people. and many others — plus dozens of episodes featuring genre-spanning discussions, debates, and explainers with Rolling Stone’s critics and reporters. Joe recounts his youth in the South Bronx projects, where he grew from a rambunctious loudmouth into a ruthless gangster after being bullied by his street-savvy peers. I especially appreciate his transparency, as it’s truly a crisis how Black and Brown people (especially women) are disproportionately the victims of medical neglect and malpractice in the US! RASCOE: So, like, in the book, you describe in detail growing up in the Forest Houses projects in the Bronx.

But his book definitely takes you on a ride from his early childhood having to deal with trauma and being bullied, growing up in the Bronx, to the days where he sold drugs and continuously got into trouble before his career took off. I felt like I was hearing my uncle tell stories from growing up back in the day; raw, authentic, w/ some (in my thoughts) exaggeration. And I said, "This album has to let this guy hear this and feel like he's on the street, like he's part of the story.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Overall I wish he'd gotten a decent editor because his life is interesting and different from my own. Her anecdotes are humorous, heartfelt, and supremely captivating, recounted with the passion of a true survivor and the acerbic wit of a weathered, street-wise New Yorker. The story of his brother’s addiction was particularly tragic, as he experienced cycles of rehab, lying, and stealing while in active addiction.

Soon, Joe and his crew rise up to dominate the streets—dodging bullets and betrayal all along the way—but he discovers his true strength in the street corner ciphers where the Bronx’s wild energy took musical form. This book gave me a real insight into the trials, struggles, biases, and triumphs that the author has experienced growing up as also as he balanced the tightrope of his past, present, and what he hoped to achieve. What I learned is that when you have negative people in your life, they weight you down, keep you from moving toward what you want. I also find Joe's account to be disingenuous in places and recollections may differ as far as his time in federal prison are concerned. He chronicles his life in great detail, his Bronx beginnings, his music, family, friends, and enemies.

But with all the history between me and Jay-Z, I just felt like for the real fans that know Fat Joe, we had to let that fly.We took in people who’d been trained since they were kids, since before their brains had even properly developed, to navigate the streets. His family means so much to him and you can see that when he talks about his wife, kids, and immediate family.
